BioTalentum (BIOT) is an RTD intensive SME established in 2005, focused mostly on stem cell research and services, with a branch on EU project management, advisory and trainings. BIOT’s scientific focus is on medical and animal biotechnologies, recently focusing on stem cell research (human, mouse, rabbit iPSCs, embryonic stem cells and cancer stem cells, 2D and 3D patient specific iPSC-derived neuronal, cardiac and other cell types). The company’s mission is the development of novel human cellular systems and animal models for biomedical research and drug testing, and to provide technical services for pharmaceutical industry. The research team of BIOT is comprised of 18 researchers and technical personnel.
BioTalentum Consulting is the project consulting branch of BIOT and supports consortia through the entire project cycle, from partner search to the successful closure of the project, and even beyond – to the business development and commercialisation of project results. The management team comprises four senior project managers, two senior financial managers and one project assistant.
In the EMAPS project, BIOT provides its expertise in hiPSC culture and differentiation to generate mature and characterised cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs). BIOT will provide CMs from hiPSC for all partners in all WPs. BIOT will build up a characterisation protocol for CMs based on transcriptomic and proteomic investigations. BIOT will participate in device development in different WPs (electrospun scaffold testing, bioactive scaffold development, bioreactor miniaturisation, device biological testing, etc.).
Furthermore, BIOT plays an active role in the innovation activities of EMAPS-Cardio focusing on the sustainability evaluation using LCC and social LCA methodologies. With monitoring the economic and social aspects, social acceptance analysis of project’s technologies and proposing recommendations to increase stakeholder’s acceptance BIOT will also support effective presentation of the final results of EMAPS-Cardio.
